About Me
Hi! こんにちは! 哈囉!
This is Ben, I am a doctoral student at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany working on physically based (differentiable) rendering and vision science under the supervision of Thomas Wallis. Before that I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Computational Linguistics and a Master's in Visual Computing.
Aside from the application of light transport to investigate vision science, I am also interested in other aspects of visual storytelling. This includes the following areas:
- Production rendering
- Tools for (visual) story telling
- Game engines and interactive graphics
In my free time I like to work on my own renderer こもれび (Komorebi) to practice, try to contribute to open standards hosted by the Academy Software Foundation, and some other rendering backends (e.g. Godot). Apart from the technical activities I like to take photos, travel and learn new languages. At the moment I am learning Japanese. The languages I speak are: German, English, Spanish and Chinese. Overall, I am pretty interested in a lot of different fields and it is not that hard catching my interest in another one.
